THE URHOBO KINGDOM OF
OLOMU
HISTORY
As in other Urhobo kingdoms, some oral tradition informs that the People
of Olomu kingdom migrated from Aka, the present day Benin. Olomu, was
the first male child of the XXXXXXX Oba of Benin. It was believe that
other male children born to the king died before they are 7 days old.
The Benin tradition then required that king must not set eyes on the
crown prince. He however must be informed of the birth of the crown
prince on the seventh day. In the case of Olomu, He and the new of his
birth were hidden away from the king for fear of the child dying before
the seventh day. It so happened that, another male child was born about
the same time as Olomu whose birth ended up being presented to the kings
palace. This prince was then declared the heir to the throne.
It was this error
the resulted in Olomu the rightful heir to the throne migrating
southwards with his household and followers. They went through various
lands before finally settling in present day Olomu.
For this reason
all Olomu descendants are considered Princes. For the same reason, all
the chiefs in the three ruling houses of Olomu Kingdom could potentially
be crowned the Ohworode (king) of Olomu.
The current
