Senator Endorses Proposed N'delta Summit

Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development, Senator James Manager has stated that there are high hopes that the proposed Niger Delta Summit will meet the expectations of all stakeholders.

The summit is being put together at the instance of the Federal Government to bring all the stakeholders to a round table and proffer solutions to crises in the region. Manager told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Warri, Delta, that it was good to talk again even if it meant repeating the same things that had been said.

"Even when things are being repeated for effect, it will make more meaning to many people and many people will also understand the issues at stake better," he said.

Manager, who is also a member of the recently constituted steering committee on Niger Delta, said that the committee would work hard to evolve a framework for action.

"The issues at stake are well known. We are talking about how to develop the Niger Delta area and open up the rural communities. "The Federal Government has been consulting with various stakeholders in the area and the summit will enable them to voice their opinion on how best to handle the issues.

"We want the stakeholders to take full advantage of the proposed summit to speak frankly and suggest the way forward for the development of the area," he said.

The senator said that the expectations of the people were high and that they wanted a speedy resolution of the problems of neglect and move on with the development of the region.
