Written by Austin Ogwuda

Vanguard (Lagos)

ASIDE the on- going N7billon Asaba International Airport which foundation laying ceremony was performed by the National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Vincent Ogbulafor on May 7, this year, Delta State government says it is planning to take over the expansion of Osubi airstrip in Warri into an airport. Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan stated this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Asaba Sales outlet of Virgin Nigerian Airways in Asaba yesterday.

The governor who was represented by his deputy, Prof Amos Utuama (SAN) who commended the management of Virgin Nigeria for its foresight and confidence in the state promised that the “the present administration has created a conducive business environment for all businesses cited in the state.

“In our infrastructural development vision, the state government is working assiduously to build an airport in Asaba while simultaneously working towards expanding the Osubi Airport in Warri.

“These projects”, he explained, “are intended to increase the possibilities of air travels in and out of Delta State for the convenience of tourists and the business community”.

In his welcome address, the Chief Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Maydif Consultants (Passenger Sales Agent) to Virgin Nigeria Airways Mr. Jones Enebeli said “today’s occasion is significant in the sense that for the first time in the history of Delta State, the nation’s flag-carrier is establishing its presence in Asaba.

This is also coming at a time when there is a renewed vigor on the part of government to re-establish the state as an investor’s haven in line with government’s drive to massively develop the state to attract more investments.”
