Board to partner with local councils in waste management

The Delta State Waste Management Board says it has concluded plans to partner with local government councils in waste management.

Board Chairman Frank Omareh told our correspondent in Asaba that the board would assist the 25 local government

councils for effective and proper management of refuse.

‘’Sometimes we forget that refuse collection is part of the statutory responsibility of local government councils.

‘’It is also part of our responsibility to work with them in the area of proper management of waste.

‘’We are also asking them to provide at least a dump site in their domain for proper evacuation,’’ he said.

Omareh said the board, which was inaugurated two weeks ago, had started to strategize with stakeholders on how to move forward and the response was quite encouraging.

He said members of the board would from today begin a facility tour of some local government areas, including Warri South, Uvwie, Udu and Sapele.

The board chairman said the tour would also take the members to Ethiope East Local Government Area and DESOPADEC to acquaint them with modern methods of waste management.

‘’The board has started work and we want stakeholders to support our effort toward proper waste management in the state,’’ he said.
