AT & P sacks 350 in Delta
Sylvester Idowu, Warri

At least 350 workers of the African Timber and Plywood Industry, Sapele in Delta State, have been relieved of their jobs following the closure of the company.

Nigerian Tribune gathered on Monday that the closure was as a result of the collapse of another staff member in the operational department of the company, the second time in recent time.

The company, which was taken over from the UAC by the immediate past administration in the state, was moribund for years until it was resuscitated and yet ran into another problem of power supply which retarded the production capacity of the company.

The company, which was acquired to provide employment opportunity for the people of the state, collapsed, again, because the new management inherited old equipment to operate with.

Nigerian Tribune further learnt that the company had been battling with epileptic power supply, which was not helping in its operations as its only generator could not cope with the running of the machines.

Effort to get the Public Relations Officer or the Managing Director of the company proved abortive, but a highly placed source confirmed the development.
